Building Control Department for work carried out lighting

Posted by faz azim, on
Hi, I was wondering if someone could advise me on whether or not I'd need to contact my local authority's building control department for works carried out in changing the lighting in my bathroom. I also had electrical work carried out but I'm assuming because I was given a certificate the electrician falls under the competent persons scheme.

Hi Faz You only need to have work notified if there has been a new circuit from the fuse box/consumer unit added. If this is the case then your electrician who should be part p and 17th edition approved will do it for you. If it is a simple case of changing the fitting or just adding to the circuit then notification is not needed. If the lights are over zone 1 in the bathroom then they need to be IP rated. Again a fully qualified & registered electrician would have done this. Regards Charles Wisdom Electrical Experts

Hi Faz No you do need to contact local authority fot lighting changes. The Electrician seems qualified to assess and has provided you with a test certificate which is passing any liability to him and acceptable for insurance purposes providing you have checked he is on the SELECT register.
