Can the incoming power cable be extended ?

I suggest you speak to your electricity provider about this. It might be a good idea to get them to install an isolator switch if you dont already have one. Then the meter tails can be renewed from there to your consumer unit, if that is the problem. If it is too short between the main cut out fuse and the meter, I'm interested to know the circumstances that have brought this situation about. Who is fitting or has fitted this new meter? Meters and cut out fuses have seals that only the supplier has the authority to break, because it is their property. regards, Andrew

Hi William-all cables can be extended-just depends where the extension is needed. If its too short between the service cutout-the 'main fuse' and the meter then you should ask your DNO (local electricity board eg Western Power) for advice. If the cable between the meter and the kit that you own is too short then you should be asking your electricity supplier (eg Southern Electric. If theres a switch after the meter then your local sparky would be happy to oblige. Its all about responsibility and who owns which part of the installation. Hope this helps.

The incoming supply cable to your meter will have to be dealt with by the electricity supplier. The main seals may have to be cut and the new tails added and then the meter resealed. I trust this assists, thankyou, Ian
