Lighting switches between landings

Posted by John Andreae, on
I have two landings above the ground floor joined by staircases. The electrician has just wired up the switches so- I can now switch the first landing light on and off from the ground floor and on arriving at the first landing. I can also switch the second landing light on and off from the first and second landing However he hasn't put in a switch so that I can switch the first landing lights off from the second landing. This doesn't seem right! Can you advise and is there anywhere you can point me to which confirms what is good practise with regard to this or any regulations? Many thanks Regards John andreae

your electrician has wired 2 way switching for you he hasn't used 2 way and intermediate switching. This would have let you switch each light from all floors.

Hi John If you are wanting to switch a light on/off from 2 places it is correct. Did you explain to him exactly what you wanted? If you need a light to be switch on in multiple locations you will need a 2 way switch at each end and a intermediate switch/s in between. Hope this helps a little Russ
