Switch installed in bathroom less than two feet from shower

I have recently purchased a property and there is a light switch installed less than two feet from the shower. This was not picked up in the survey and I’m from the US where switches in bathrooms are common. I have been informed that this is neither safe nor legal. Is anyone able to confirm that this and offer any guidance? Thank you in advance.
