Sanding wooden floor but need to remove black goo

Posted by Rob McDowell, on
Im trying to sand my living room and Hallway but there is a black sludge on the wood that clogs the sanders and then smears it on the floor. Its almost like plasticine and has destroyed quite a few sanding belts and disks. How do I remove this or do I need to try and sand this stuff away first?

Hi Rob You need a special company to come and do this mate they have heavy duty floor sanders. The black sludge is the bonding from underneath. Regards Colin

Hi Rob, sanded my own floors and had the same problem,it could just be old lead paint or even bitumen, it has to be sanded with a very course paper, you should have been given this by your hirer. You start sanding 90 degrees to to floor boards and slowly work the sander across untill it is running with the boards. You also have to replace the sandpaper with smoother paper as the boards become cleaner to remove the scratches caused by the course paper. Andy
