The ceramic floor tiles in our kitchen are cracking and we don now why

Posted by laura ashley, on
The ceramic floor tiles in our kitchen are cracking and breaking and we are not sure why. We damaged one tile slightly which made a hole about the size of a 10p and now cracks have appeared on several other tiles around it. we also have cracks in areas not directly connected to the original damaged tile. Where one of the tiles has broken away we can see here is a certain amount hollow area, but we also have under floor heating so perhaps this is necessary? The question is how do we find out why they are breaking and try to fix them and stop this happening in the future?

Hi Laura , is it a concrete or wooden floor. it could be many things . sub floor moving. not enough adhesive hasn't been bonded before hand and floor has blown. if you have cracks every where sound as if it hasn't been done correctly. sound to me like you should think about ripping it out and getting a flooring specialist like me to fix it. rgrds jim jnddevelopments.net

If the tiler dot an dabbed the tiles as he laid then anything hitting the tile will break it. Floor tiles should always be fully embedded so there solid. If theres underfloor heating as well there should be no voids. Not good
