VERY uneven concrete floor...

Posted by Vicki Barker, on
Doing up an old house... the room that will be the kitchen is a big (11-foot by 22-foot) room that's mostly Victorian tiles set in concrete (itself probably set in the ground - there's no cellar beneath) ... Floor is VERY uneven, with some big bulges (but no cracks). Can it be evened out by skimming/drilling... or would some kind of compound have to be poured over the whole floor (which would result in its being higher than neighbouring rooms)? And -- how much would that be? Many thanks!

Hi Vicky We always recomend to post a job on main website because some of a job needs to be seen before any advice is given. Our service is free of charge with no obligation quote and our tradesmans are happy to help with every aspects of jobs. I would strongly recomend to post a job on Rated People home page then 3 companies will get in touch then you would be able to choose the right person as you would receive an e mail with a link to tradesman account where you would see a pictures and you will read revious from previous customers. I hope this will help Best regards Rafal

Hi Your best bet is to advertise the job Reasons being A bag of Latex ( Levelling Compound) covers approx 5,5 sq metres at 2mm in depth So You could lose a lot of latex. Also there a different types of latex for thicknesses Also what is the end aim. Meaning are you putting tiles/ Wood etc on top Are the tiles secured to the base floor. No point in latexing if the tiles are not secure.Throwing your money away So just advertise and your under no obligation jeff Guild Flooing

Hi you can get levelling compound but if going over old tiles you will have to seal with a primer & use a compound that will Bond to the tiles not your run of the mill compound , Travis Perkins stock varied types Price for materials for 20m2 floor roughly £60 labour £200
