Swelling under kitchen wood laminate flooring

Posted by Rupert Smith, on
The wood laminate flooring under the kitchen cupboard above which the sink sits and next to (but not below) the dishwasher has swollen implying water damage, but only under a specific c. 1ft wide area. I have recently fitted a new kitchen tap but I cannot detect any leaks from any pipework and the floor itself is dry. The other side of the wall is the bathroom and the bath itself. Again there are no obvious leaks from the bath pipework but the concrete floor under the bath is damp to touch (however water regularly gets under there from showering and there is no natural ventilation so this does not surprise me). Who do I need to: 1) detect what the issue is and 2) suggest a solution? I'm assuming a plumber and flooring specialist separately? Will the swelling eventually spread to the visible part of the flooring? Can we just cut out the laminate flooring under the cupboard where it is not visible? Any help appreciated.

Well you probably need a plumber to sort any leak, I would cut the floor as far back as possible to protect the flooring that is visible. Laminate flooring will wick moisture quite a distance so it will show up in the visible area Martin
