How to make one floor from 2 halves?

Posted by Ruth Mason, on
My living room is two rooms knocked-through, one with a solid concrete floor and the other parquet. These are both original from the 1930s. Damp-proofing under the parquet is bitumen backing on the parquet tiles. There is no insulation to either floor. I want to have one floor solution across both floors, adding some insulation but not raising the floor level if possible. What are my options? I'd love to have parquet flooring throughout but that would mean digging out the concrete floor to make it on the same level. Or could I put new wood planks on top of both?

Hi Ruth it's best not to cover the parquet flooring as the bitumen is still live and would blow and product laid above. They advice if you want flooring in both room would be up lift the parquet level to the same hight as the oher and then you are ready to go. It is work I can carry out if you live near Essex regards larry macs flooring
