Dry rot is one of the worst things you can get in your house, it is a very destructive organism. Although the spores are everywhere in our atmosphere they require the correct environment to grow. That environment is usually unventilated damp spaces. You can't just remove any rotted wood, and replace with new. And you can actually make things worse by distributing fruiting spores around the house if rotten wood is ripped out badly. Rotted timbers need to be carefully bagged and burnt. Adjacent brickwork should be naked flame or chemical treated as spores can get into brickwork. It's not a job DIY job, the Pearson doing it really must know what they need to do. And most important is to remedy the actual cause. Like improve the ventilation and get rid of the damp.
