Laminate on top of fibreboard

Posted by Mike , on
Hi - I'm replacing some laminate flooring in an upstairs room. It looks like the previous owners had fibreboard on top of floorboards before putting laminate in place. There are soft parts when I walk on top of the current laminate flooring. My new laminate has built in underlay. Would it be possible to put this laminate straight on top of the floorboards? I'm curious if the previous owner had used fibreboard to improve structural integrity due to potential poor floorboards? so maybe I need to keep them in? Thanks.
