i have looked at buying a property but it has knotweed in the garden i am told this potentially makes it unmortgageable is this true ?

As Pete says knotweed is treatable. Digging up the clumps and repeatedly treating the re-emerging shoots with systemic weedkiller injected into the stems is the best solution. Also make sure you burn anything you remove and not just dispose of it with the rest of your garden waste. Cheers, Craig

No, this is nonsense. However, knotweed (usually referred to as Japanese Knotweed) is particularly tough and will need alot of work to remove. I have successfully removed it from London gardens by repeatedly digging out clumps. Most gardeners would recommend using weedkiller. Some will guarantee it won't come back but they tend to charge a high premium. If the garden is very large and covered by JK then I would recommend a local company. In short is a pain to get rid of but not impossible don't let anyone let alone estate agents tell you otherwise
