Garden brick column

Posted by jose G, on
I wanted to have some brick colums built in my garden. The soil type looks like clay. To have a 6ft column, how deep/wide would i have to make the footing/foundation?? Was thinking of going 2.5ft down x 18" square wide then placing a paving slab on the bottom then building the column on this. Any ideas?

Putting a paving slab at the bottom won't do ant good fill the hole with concrete to 150 mill below ground level (2 course of bricks) that will make a much stronger base for the piers.
