Hi, If you are paying for it you would benefit from having it your side. If the other party is not happy they can always feather edge there side if you are not using arras rails or use ready made feather edge panels (everyone is a winner).There is no certain way to have it, after all the feather edge boards are for decorative benefit not structure.
as long as its with in your bounderiers it does not matter much but normally the board will be on outside edge
The face side of the fence goes on which ever side you choose as long as its within your bondary.( Facing the outside is just a custom not a law.) Dont forget you could always face off both sides if you compleate the frame correctly. Hope this helps James.

hi Chris, as long as the fence is on your land then you can erect it any way you like, however it is traditional to have the frame on the inside and the "face" on the outside. hope this helps Harvey
I would put the feather edge to the outside, so that the fence rails are in your garden. That way, the face side of the panel is decorative side that people will see, and nobody will try and use the fence rails as a climbing frame!
