Can lavender in pots be used as a houseplant
Mark Leverton

Hello Barbara French Lavender is especially suitable for indoor growth. Place your plant in a sunny windowsill with good air circulation and water regularly allowing the top inch or so of soil to dry out. Rotate the pot every few days to allow the sun to reach all of the leaves so as to promote even growth Hope this helps Mark Surrey Hills Landscaping

Hello Barbara, Yes the lavender is suitable for a sunny window or position and will tolerate a cold room or conservatory. Just be aware of the watering as sitting in water if using a drip tray or saucer can lead to root rot. If using a decorative pot some do not have drainage holes put some coarse material at the bottom to allow for water collecting at the bottom and avoiding root rot. What may be the best plan is to keep the plant in a basic pot and insert this into a more decorative one if desired. Then the plant can be lifted out to water and drain then reinserted. Pruning after flowering will keep the plant compact, do not cut in to old woody stems. There a several dwarfing varieties available if space is tight and white/cream flower spikes as well as the traditional purple. Hope this helps. Regards, Phil
