I am going to replacing chipping stones in my garden. Edging is already there, I want to know what is best option for weed control, hardcore with blinding layer or weed membrane?

Hi Pat As Jeremy said. If your garden is particularly boggy you might consider a membrane between your scalpings and sub soil too. Around 150 mm deep scalpings for foot traffic is sufficient.

I would advise a base layer of "scalpings" or m.o.t type1 which is stone and dust, compacted with a plate vibrator. Then a weed surpressing membrane, then loose chippings. It can be done without the sub base, but this gives a mucher firmer surface. hope that helps, Jeremy

Hi Patrick - It is essential to underlay your decorative garden stones with a good weed control underlayer. There is a lot of different kind on a market so the best solution is to visit any builders yard and they would advise what membrane to choose. Regards Rafal
