Plants in Pots

Posted by Ruth Appleby, on
I have a very small garden and two dogs. In order to keep plants alive I need to have them in pots, out of reach of the dogs, on racks or shelving. Can someone suggest suitable evergreens or annuals that can be kept in pots but provide colour and cover, if there are such things?

Hi Ruth You could happily mix evergreens and annuals in large pots and will add some interest all year round. Clematis x cartmanii, Pittosporum tenuifolium, Pennisetum setaceum ,Cosmos bipinnatus, Coreopsis tinctoria. All work well together. Maybe consider adding some creepers to trail down the side of your pots ( or climb a wall, away from your naughty dogs ) Clematis armandii or Cirrhosa are nice ones. Maybe intersperse some herbs into your pots for added smells. Maybe line the top of your pots with pebbles to help discourage the dogs, scattering red pepper flakes also helps. Hope this Helps Mark Surrey Hills Landscaping
