HI Sarah Maybe plumbers should stick to answering questions on their own specialist subject ? ...Is hard to give accurate advice without seeing the job but If you prefer the look of decking and providing you have the space above the existing patio then you could deck over the top. No reason why you couldn't extend the patio either but you may need to build the levels of your garden up a bit or and build a retaining wall. Bare in mind that decking does become slippery over time and needs a little more maintenance. You can post your job on the site and get three trades in to come visit you and give you advice and a quote to carry out the work. Be sure you want to proceed as us as tradesmen pay for the leads.
