Fence replacement, small stumps removal, maybe decking.

Posted by Mike McCluskey, on
Got a big space at the back of our garden that we cut down some evergreen hedges. Intention is to replace existing fence, approx 20M, thats the easy bit. Want to build a deck and a summerhouse/cabin later, do I need to get the stumps that run just inside the fence line removed? 14 of them, they vary from 4" to 15". I assume so as I want my deck to run to the new fence. I've seen precast concrete blocks that you can sit deck framing on, are they any good? For a cabin, maybe 4m x 3M, do I deck the whole area and sit the house on top or do I need a concrete base or anything and then build the deck around it? Thanks, M.

Hi Mike Yes I would remove the stumps or get someone to grind them down for you. I would certainly sit your deck on concrete blocks as it will keep the timber off the damp. Also put down a weed suppressive membrane under the whole deck.Do not put the summerhouse on the deck because when the deck rots, ( and it will) you will have to re situate your house. Put the summerhouse on a concrete base and deck around it . Hope this Helps Mark Surrey Hills Landscaping
