Hi Caroline, It depends entirely on your own preference. If you are comfortable buying the materials then ask the tradesman to supply you with a list of what you need to buy. In my experience it is better to let the tradesman buy the materials because it is likely he will have a trade account and get a lower price or at least match consumer price but with better quality materials.
