Good Evening. Privet hedge roots can become exceptionally strong, especially with maturity. However, it is unusual for the roots to penetrate cast sewer pipes or plastic unless the root puts exceptional force on the line itself. plastic is more susceptible to this, however I've only seen it once. What is much more common, is for roots to penetrate even the smallest of crack in sewer pipes, pushing the crash and in doing so making it larger, eventually causing the sewer to break and fail.
