White spores in soil

Have a white fungus spores in soil.Area stays dry/smells awful. Concerned I may have to excavate the garden.

Hi Martyn, Please dont worry or stress too much, let me see if i can help you. Quite often you can come across a white fungus in soil, mulch and bark mulch, this is know as (mycelium) Saprophytic fungi feed on dead plant and animal remains. Many are extremely beneficial, breaking down this organic material into humus, minerals and nutrients that can be utilised by plants. So there maybe some kind of manure in the soil and this has created the fungus to live and breath. I hope this helps ! All the best Charles Benton
