Several radiators not working

Posted by anne hitchings, on
Half the radiators in the house are fine and the other half are woring intermittantly, so am presuming the circuit is split into two, Drained the system, ran water through it, turning radiators on and off, drained again, then removed the radiator that was not working at all and hosed out until clear.Replaced radiator, refilled system but no change to the half that were not working. Will proceed to remove and clean other radiators but are wondering if the problem could be in the pipes rather than rads.. ie sludge/debris.If this is the case, what can be done? ( we have put cleaning fluid in) This is an old house with a fairly old system, but new boiler.

Hi Anne The first thing to do would be to have a chemical powerflush using the right tools i.e a powerflushing machine and using a strong chemical know as sentinel X800. Also if the system is quite old and you still have an Feed and expansion tank, it may well be worth pressurising the heating system this would also help to shift a blockage, but take in to consideration the age of the radiators and valves etc as some old systems will probably not be able to handle being pressurised

What would you like to do now?
