Overnight Electric water heater not working

Posted by Julia Coakley, on
I have no gas in my flat, only Electric. My water is not heating overnight although I can manually heat water. My storage heater in my lounge is working correctly.

Hi Julia,do you have a time clock with an override to manually boost the hot water? if so and the water heats when you swith the boost override then the time clock could be the cause, failing that it could be the element in the water tank, post job under electricians and im sure you will get it resolved.

If you are on econony 7 then your hot water tank will have two elements in it, one at the bottom and one at the top. The one at the bottom will be the one that heats water through the night and the one at the top is boost/manual. Either the thermostat has burnt out or the element is faulty in the bottom one. It is also possible that the timeclock/switch is faulty. An electrician should be able to test this and find the fault.
