Moving a Bolier

Posted by Craig Wilson, on
I bought a house with an old style boiler where there is a hot and cold water tank. The boiler is in a cupboard in the bedroom. I will be replacing this system to a combi boiler. But i would prefer to move the boiler downstairs to the kitchen. Would this be an expensive job?

It will cost you more than just a basic boiler replacement. Added cost will be: De-commissioning old system, Configuring old pipework from system to Combi, Re-routing pipe work to kitchen.

To carry out a system change over can usually cost anywhere from £2000 to £3500. The standard concerns when moving a boiler are, where the flue terminates, running condense pipework and possible gas pipe upgrade to meet new regulations and ensuring suitable connections to the existing heating circuit. Other issues to affect costing are quality of the boiler, heating controls and filters. As with most work it's well worth getting 2 or 3 quotations.

Hi Craig I think Michael has misunderstood what you are trying to ask. To convert your current conventional boiler to a combi boiler, removing the hot water cylinder, cold storage cistern, feed & expansion cistern and all associated pipe work that will not be required will be around £2500 including material. This will include a power flush which is a must in order to validate the warranty on the boiler. Please note gas line will need to be increased if you are putting in a combi boiler. I would recommend a Glow worm or Vaillant boiler as they are very reliable. Hope this helps. Sam (eps)
