I need a new water tank thermostat, is it an electrician or a heating engineer who would install

Hi there David, this is an electrical job if you purely want the stat changing-a PArt P qualified plumber could do it too-it should take no longer than 5 minutes to do so don't be paying any more than a callout charge plus the cost of the stat!

Hi David A fully qualified plumber/heating engineer will be able to handle this kind of job. If it is just the thermostat that has gone then an electrician could do this but if it involves replacing the whole immersion heater element then you would need a plumber or heating engineer as it would involve draining down the cylinder. Something you can check yourself if you feel confident- Isolate the power to the immersion, open up the front cover and check that the thermostat doesn't need resetting. This is quite a common fault. A good quality plumber/htg Engineer would do that, do you mean the whole immersion heater or just the Stat ? Thanks Tim

There are a few possibilities here depending on which stat is in question. If it is the stat on the side of the hot water tank which then controls the boiler side of the hot water system, this should be changed by an electrician. If it is the stat which is encorporated in with the heating element of the hot water tank this should be changed by an electrician, but if there is a fault with the actual element a plumber will also have to be involved as the tank will need draining down.
