Boiler keeps tripping off

Posted by William Auld, on
I have an 8 yr old Worcester combi boiler that keeps tripping off. The red light starts flashing, then u simply turn it down and back up to restart the system. British gas say that it needs a power flush, but fail to understand how that is going to fix the issue as to me it seams there is faulty sensor or something?

Hi William, The system is overheating because of a faulty component, as the sensors, the pump or because of a blockage. I will check the diverter valve also as they can reduce the flow of water if the don't open fully. But don't do a powerflush specially with british gas as you can have one for around £250. Get an over check of the boiler by someone else before deciding of the powerflush. Thanks. Sevket

Hi William, Please don't allow British Gas to talk you into a power flush! They invented the power flush and charge £800.00 for a procedure that doesn't work! There may be a blockage in the pipework or radiator that's stopping the water circulating round your heating system and causing the boiler to overheat . Get a plumber to carry out a chemical flush and install a magnetic filter on the system. That will cure the problem for less than half the mine British Gas will charge for a power flush. Thanks, Vinny
