the back boiler needs to be drained and isolated from the system and then it must have a minimum of two holes drilled into it

I have two heating systems in the house just purchased, one is just gas and is currantly in service the other is a wood burner and back boiler that is not in service,
My question is what needs to happen in order for me to use the wood burner as a wood burner, i have read that most back boilers are the size of shoe boxes, does that need to be excavated from the fireplace or can it be left in situ
