Hi Rob, It is illegal for a qualified gas fitter to leave an "open end", I.e. A pipe with just a valve on the end of it which could be switched on at any time flooding the room with gas and causing an explosion. You should get a qualified gas fitter to cap off the pipe with a permanent fitting such as a soldered blank or compression fitting. Hope that helps, Richard.
