Real wood-burning stoves - what do we need to think about?

Our gas fire has broken down - well, it needs servicing and has been condemned, and we are spending a fortune on electric heaters as we don't have central heating. We would like a wood burning stove to put in the fireplace but not sure what budget we are looking at and what else we should consider? We do have a fireplace flute and chimney and it's a small bungalow. Thank you!
