Mains Gas Replacement - My rights

Posted by Elaine Parry, on
Cadent are replacing the mains gas supply in our street. Our house is awkward because the gas meter is back under the stairs. They will try to push a new pipe through the old metal pipe but if this doesn't work they want to put the gas meter on the outside of the house, run copper pipe up the outside of the house and under the bedroom floors to our boiler in the bathroom. The problem with going under the floor downstairs is that the back room floor is solid. We feel that they might be able to get though by cutting out a few inches of of the back room floor to get to the gas meter under the stairs. My main concern is that they have said this all needs to happen tomorrow as they are replacing the main tomorrow. So I feel like I have no choice at all about what is going on. Can anyone advise on what my rights are. If the new pipe won't push through can I demand they reconnect the old pipe so we can have a proper conversation about how to route the new copper pipe rather than it all being done under pressure?
