Washing machine smoking

Posted by Philip Morgan, on
We have a Hoover washing machine which is about one week over its warranty period. Today, as it finished its cycle it gave off some smoke mixed with the normal steam from the drum and a faint smell of burning. I'm wondering if anyone knows if that's a common problem which can be fixed with some new brushes for the motor or something like that? I know I should get a repairman out but am completely broke due to Christmas being soon. Many thanks for any help in advance.

I would try the place you bought it from first, or contact Hoover direct. Because it is just one week out of warranty they might repair it free of charge as a good will gesture. i would certainly try this first before having any work done on it which may invalidate any possible good will warranty. If this does not work you could also ask citizens advice if you have any grounds for a warranty claim under the sale of goods act, as I believe it is unreasonable for a washing machine to breakdown when it is (presumably 12 months old?) . Cheers, Karl
