Do I have to have a worktop at both sides of my hob. I have an extractor fan below a wall cupboard that houses my electricity fuse box, is this legal please

I would advise to have at least 300mm of work surface either one side of the hob otherwise cooking with bigger pans is almost impossible. Although it is rather strange to have an extractor fan 'below' a wall cupboard as long as your fuse box is protected from moisture and debris then it should be OK. I am assuming you mean a 4" fan and its not above a heat/water/steam source ? Regards

Hi It is advisable to have worktop both sides of a hob, however I am not aware of any rules to say that you must have worktop both sides of a hob. Have a look in the manufacturers instructions that come with the hob to see if it says anything about it in there. With the fuse board, I cant see any problem with it being in a cupboard above a hob. But if you unsure it maybe best to ask a qualified electrician. Hope this helps Dean
