Kitchen Extractor

Posted by Victoria Mellor, on
We are moving into a terraced house, they do not have an extractor fan over the oven. We want to get a Chimney cooker hood fitted that extracts the air outside, the oven is however located along an adjoining wall which means we have to find a way of getting the air out through ceiling to the opposite wall. Who would do this and how?

Hello If there is no hood already (even a non vented one) then you will need an electrician to provide a new supply for the new hood. Assuming the kitchen is towards the rear of the house then usually the vent pipe would go along the top of your kitchen units and out through the rear wall via a vent. You would then clad the pipe in wood or MDF and paint it to match your wall/ceiling so that it wouldn't be too obvious. However cooker hoods aren't massively powerful extractors unless you have catering rated ones and it could be a costly exercise for a reasonably small benefit when cooking. A non vented hood will still pull fumes and grease through both mesh and carbon filters before re circulating. Stephen
