Improving a new build fitted kitchen

I moved into a new build home a couple of years ago. The kitchen has been badly planned and doesn't have adequate work surface or storage. I would like to have more base units added and existing cabinets moved without having to re-do the whole kitchen. Would this be a reasonable request for an experienced tradesman?
