Joining 28mm laminate worktops

Posted by Josh Reeves, on
I've got 3x Ikea Ekbacken worktops 28mm depth. I don't want to join these using a joining strip I want the either mitre sawed, jig or routered in and the joined using a 150mm Screwfix connecting bolt. Currently being told it's impossible - is it? And if not, what's the solution?

If it's a timber worktop it can be done the joints will be butt jointed with jointing bolts underneath. Then using an orbital sander the joint can be finished off, using various grades of sandpaper, the important thing with timber finished worktops us using the correct oil like Danish oil the worktops need at least three coats all over including the underside!

Hi Josh you can cut the joint with a jig and router, just need to be careful when setting depth for bolts as the tops are only 28mm. Have done this many times. Ed
