What thickness pipe should I have for waste pipe from the kitchen?

My kitchen (3rd floor flat) is on the other side of the room to the main soil pipe. The kitchen sink drain pipe (which also drains a dishwasher and washing machine) travels under the floorboards and connects to the soil pipe.
The sink drain pipe is currently 40mm. Is that enough? Are the regulations on the fall and thickness of the pipe? It all seems to work fine.
The whole run is just under 6m in length.
