Need to understand safe use of cooker - gas hob with electric oven.

I am afraid of accidentally starting a fire by not understanding the interplay of gas hob and electricity in my cooker, and in particular not knowing which of two electric plugs inside a cupboard is controlling it. I have not used my electric oven for years because of this.
