We have a conventional 3 bedroom 'L' shaped Victorian terraced House. The rear section containing the kitchen/scullery and Bathroom/3rd bedroom is about 4x6m (so bigger than most) the attic is however only about 1.5m high, assuming we had the 'OK' from our neighbours is there any reason why we cant build a 3rd floor on the back with a pent roof, rather than the conventional 'box' that most people add in place of the main roof attic. Our proposal seems so logical we are wondering why most people don't do it.
