Can a roof beam of 16ft be steel plated be sandwiched with steel the length of the beam but not going into the wall. Would this be suffucient to strengthen the beam or should the steel go into the wall and be supported by the brick work? A uilder has told us that sanwiching the wood and not going into wall would be sufficient and we don't see how this would work.
