Loft conversion to en-suite bedroom

Posted by Vaiva Rin, on
Hi All Type of conversion: loft conversion into the bedroom with bathroom Type of house: two-bedroom post war mid terraced house rebuilt in 1950’s. I do not think that we will need to raise a roof (as it's enough headroom). Do I need any permissions from Building control and/or council? Do I need an architect to redraw floor plan (I would like a bedroom to count as a bedroom when I will be selling the house). are there any other regulations and/or requirements that I need to meet? Please let me know, if you need any further information, otherwise I look forward hearing from you soon and any advice will be highly appreciated. many thanks
Michael Lowe

Hi, you shouldn't need planning permission as it should fall within permitted development but you will need to adhere to building regs. They are very strict on fire regulations for lofts, contact your local council and speak to building control for more specific information. MiLo
