there is a way to save that nice coving, I did a job years ago , I had to use a small grinder to make cut all around the edge , then we released the ceiling , replaced with new boards , it was not easy , and we saved the ceiling rose

My ceiling is cracked diagonally from one corner to the other, part has dropped 1/2 cm Do I need a new ceiling or can it be fixed without loosing the cornicing?

It may be fixed depending on the cause of the ceiling and the severity but without seeing it its hard to comment.
