No, it should not all come down, but he would need to be very careful when cutting the wooden stripes, so that they do not vibrate across the ceiling and cracking the plaster, then you may need to re-plaster ceiling

I have a lathe & plaster ceiling. Electrician will need to get to junction box - if a hole is made in it, is it likely the whole ceiling will come down?
