Modern gas fire cracking painted wall.

Posted by Kevin Dawson, on
We have had a modern gas fire fitted into the old fireplace utilizing the existing Chimney, The fire is extremely efficient putting circa 80% of the heat into the room. The plaster though has cracked surrounding the fire due to the heat. We let the plaster thoroughly dry for two weeks before a brief test of the fire in the summer. Is there a plaster mix which is more heat resistant that normal plaster. How can I stop this painted wall from cracking?

Vitcas make a heat resistant plaster. It is very expensive ,but does the job. It is only sold by Vitcas so you have to deal through them . Hope this helps DS Plasterers
