I have a large internal damp patch below an upstairs window.

Hello, I have a large internal damp patch below an upstairs window. The window was replaced aout 5 years ago. The re-pointing was done in lime mortar about 7 years ago. Could you please give some advice on what the problem might be? Thank you

Hello Mark It sounds like you have done a lot to redact the problem. I would suggest you put the job on this site to get a survey done it a free service to you so why not take advantage of it. Regards Michael

Hi Mark, I'm guessing that as you had the pointing done in lime mortar, the house is at least 90 years old and has no cavity. I would suggest to line the whole of that wall with something like styroliner. You buy this already fixed to a plaster board. It will give you great insulation and also eliminate any damp patches. The thicker the better. I believe it comes up to 50mm thickness max. If you can afford to lose the space. Take the existing plaster off first, that way you will minimise the loss. JC.
