Damp patches inside house - porous bricks?

Posted by Julie Smith, on
I have repeated damp patches inside my Victorian terrace (north facing, no sun, lots of rain hitting the wall!) I'm assuming it's down to 130 year old, porous bricks but I only re-plastered and painted 6 months ago - what should I do and who should I ask?! I had 3 different people in last year (plasterer, re-pointer, general handyman) and had 3 different answers!, thanks

Hello Julie, Is the property of 220mm solid brick or does it have a cavity wall construction .If it is a solid wall try painting/ spraying a clear masonry sealant on the walls. This allows the walls to breath and let moisture escape but at the same time it prevents water ingress.

Dear Julie The best way to rectify a problem is to see what is causing a damp on your walls. I would suggest to post your job on Rated People home page under builders cattegory then up to 3 trades will contact you with a free no obligation quote and professional advice. I hope this can help Best regards Rafal
