Is cement render okay to use on old bricks

Posted by Nicola Ray, on
Hello there, could someone please advise me. I have bought some multipurpose mortar to render a newly built patch of brickwork (the bricks were laid using cement). If the bricks were modern I would go right ahead but we used old reclaimed bricks. Will the cement render still be okay to use or are old bricks too soft, i.e. will the render eventually fall off? Thank you for any help.

Hi Nicola Reclaimed bricks are no softer than new bricks. Make sure the face is clean then render them , you might give them a coat of p.v.a. Just to be sure JC

Hi Nicola We always recomend to post a job on main website because some of a job needs to be seen before any advice is given. Our service is free of charge with no obligation quote and our tradesmans are happy to help with every aspects of jobs. I would strongly recomend to post a job on Rated People home page then 3 companies will get in touch then you would be able to choose the right person as you would receive an e mail with a link to tradesman account where you would see a pictures and you will read revious from previous customers. I hope this will help Best regards Rafal
