Over-boarding an existing ceiling

Posted by Gag Sopal, on
Hi, i have have a house built in the late 1930's and have over boarded an existing ceiling on the 1st floor and had it skimmed. We marked out the joists on the existing ceiling and used 50mm screws to attach the new boards which was taped, filled and skimmed. My question is regarding the strength of the joists? Are they strong enough to take this double ceiling (board & skim)? I have a horrible feeling that it will all come crashing down?
