Replastering

Posted by Victoria Hale, on
I am a first time buyer and have purchased a house in need of refurbishing, it already has a central heating system, I want to re-plaster how do I get around the central heating. Must I completely remove it?

Hi Victoria Just to add to Jason's advice providing your radiator valves are able to completely close (they sometimes let a small dribble by) then you only need to turn them off and disconnect (from radiator connection only leaving valve attached to radiator feeds) and drain the water from that radiator, no need to freeze or drain down whole system and then lift radiator off wall and then remove brackets then replace screws into existing holes for ease of working plaster around bracket position and leaves you exactly the same position when replacing radiator after plaster has dried and you have decorated.

Hi Victoria, I'm assuming you are referring to the removal of the radiators so you can plaster behind the rads. You can do this one of two ways. 1. Drain the central heating system completely, if this isn't something you fancy doing probably best to give a plumber a call. 2. If you would rather do a specific room you could freeze the pipes, remove the rad and then cap of the existing pipes, agin if you don't feel confident doing this yourself best give a plumber a call. Hope this helps. Jason. JH Carpentry, Joinery & Building Services
