Cracks in old Victorian property

Posted by Simone Coley, on
We're first time buyers and looking to buy an old Victorian house. We've noticed a lot of cracks in the walls and ceiling. We'll get it surveyed to understand if anything is major and structural but if it's just plastering that needs pulling down and replacing -is there any specific type of plaster we need? I'm not sure how 'damp proof' the house is (one for the surveyor) but assuming that it doesn't have the best insulation then wonder what plaster should be used. Have read a lime based one is best? And that its more expensive and harder to find a plasterer who can do it? Is that all correct? Any other advice?
